How To Create: Tartan Nails

It seems like forever since I've sat down and written a blog post and that's probably due to the fact I've been busy for 10 weeks solid. If you follow me on Twitter or have watched the videos my Mamma put up on my YouTube channel, you'll know that I have been training to become a Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist. So if you were sat there wondering if I'd been abducted by Aliens, fear not, I was in fact training.
Now I'm qualified and no longer have to train anymore it means I have lots of time to write posts and make videos meaning you're going to see a lot more of me.

I thought I'd get back into the blogging business by showing you a funky, on trend nail tutorial. Tartan is huge this A/W so I thought I'd show you all how to create Tartan Nails.

Beautysets - How To: Tartan Nails

What you will need:
  • Taupe Nail Polish
  • White Acrylic Paint
  • Black Acrylic Paint
  • Red Acrylic Paint
  • Top Coat
  • Thin Paint Brush

Please note that if you do not own acrylic paints you can use nail polish instead. I purely use acrylic paint for nail art as it dries very fast meaning I can complete my designs in no time. If you're wanting to buy acrylic paint, check out your local art shop as they stock acrylic paint sets for as little as £10.

Step By Step:

Step One:
Apply the taupe coloured nail varnish to your nail.

Step Two:
Using the white acrylic paint and a thin paint brush, apply a large white stripe across your nail. Place this more towards the tip of the nail than the root of the nail.

Step Three:
Using the black acrylic paint and a thin paint brush, apply a black line at either side of the white stripe and also in the middle of the white stripe.

Step Four:
Again using the black acrylic paint and a thin paint brush, apply two black lines vertically down your nail.

Step Five:
Using the red acrylic paint and a thin paint brush, apply one red line horizontally across your nail (towards the root) and one red line vertically down your nail.

Step Six:
Apply a top coat to protect the design and you're done!

NOTD: Ombré Cherry Blossom

I'm currently in the process of decorating my new bedroom so as you can imagine I'm spending a lot of time searching for furniture, ornaments and pretty things I can place on the walls etc. One of my ideas is to have cherry blossom on one of my walls so I've been looking high and low for the perfect cherry blossom wall decal. I have an image in my head of what I want but I just cannot seem to find anything that matches the image in my head... frustrating.

My obsession with cherry blossom is starting to become unhealthy, so much so that I decided to paint cherry blossom on my nails. I decided to do ombré cherry blossom nails for two reasons, one, I like ombré and two, it's on trend.

Nail Polishes Used:
Essie 'Blanc'
Essie 'Mint Candy Apple'
Orly 'Winter Wonderland'
Brown, White, Red Acrylic Paints

I hope you like my ombré cherry blossom nails as much as I do and if you'd like a tutorial on how to create them, comment below!

Thank you for reading!

How To Create Purple Gradient Stripe Nails!

A couple of weeks ago WAH nails posted a photograph on Instagram of a set of coral themed nails they did for one of their clients. I noticed that on one of the finger nails they had created a coral gradient striped design. It was cool, funky and I knew I'd be able to do it myself.
I can paint stripes freehand with my eyes closed but I know that many people struggle to create stripes as they either don't have the patience or just cannot physically do it. Because of this I have written a handy tutorial showing you how to create gradient striped nails the simple and easy way.
This tutorial will be helpful if you wish to create the WAH inspired gradient stripe nails or if you just want to create stripes in general.

What you will need to create purple gradient stripe nails:

  • White Nail Polish - I used Essie 'Blanc'
  • Lilac Nail Polish - I used Illamasqua 'Wink'
  • Purple Nail Polish - I used OPI 'Planks A Lot'
  • Dark Purple Nail Polish - I used Jessica 'Pretty In Purple'
  • Top Coat - I used Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat
  • Microporous / Scotch Tape
  • Scissors

Please don't feel like you have to use the same nail polishes as I did as any nail polish will be fine. The key thing is that you select a white nail polish, pale nail polish, dark nail polish and very dark nail polish.  You can also pick up microporous tape from your local chemist or supermarket for as little as £2.00.

If you would like to create purple gradient stripe nails all you have to do is follow my nice and easy steps!

Step One:
Apply two coats of the white nail polish to your nails. It's also important that you let the nail polish fully dry before carrying onto the other steps as you'll end up ripping the nail polish off if you don't let it dry.

Step Two:
Cut a piece of tape and apply it to the base of your nail.

Step Three:
Apply another piece of tape to the centre of your nail. This step determines how wide you want the 3rd stripe to be.

Step Four:
Apply the lilac nail polish to the gap between both pieces of tape. You'll need to use two coats.

Step Five:
Once the lilac nail polish has dried, remove both pieces of tape.

Step Six:
Apply a piece of tape to the tip of your nail. Again, this step determines the width of the 2nd stripe.

Step Seven:
Apply the purple nail polish to the gap between the tape and the lilac nail polish. You'll need to use two coats.

Step Eight:
Once the purple nail polish has dried, remove the tape.

Step Nine:
Apply the dark purple nail polish to the tip of your nail. You'll need to use two coats.
Once dry, apply a top coat!

And we're done!

Video Tutorial:

Obviously you can use any colours, you don't have to limit yourself to purple. I think a coral, black or multicoloured version would look amazing too!

I hope you liked this tutorial, and most importantly I hope you found it helpful. If you have any nail tutorial requests, please feel free to let me know.

How to create Cupcake Nails!

If you have followed my blog from the very beginning you will know that I have already done a cupcake nail tutorial (of which I have now deleted), so you're probably wondering why I'm doing another. Well I'm going to tell you now.
The reason why I am doing another cupcake tutorial is because, to be quite frank, this cupcake design is 100% better than the other one. The old design is absolutely naff in comparison to this one.

So if you would like to create super funky cupcake nails, keep on reading!

What you will need:
  • Mint green nail polish
  • Bright pink nail polish
  • Pale pink nail polish
  • White nail polish
  • Red nail polish
  • Pale blue nail polish
  • Yellow nail polish
  • Orange nail polish
  • Green nail polish
  • Dotting tools
  • Nail art brushes

If you would like to create cupcake nails all you have to do is follow my nice and easy steps!

Step One:
Apply 2 coats of the mint green nail polish to your nail. (This is the base)

Step Two:
Apply the bright pink nail polish to half of your nail. (This is the cupcake case)

Step Three:
Using a thin nail art brush and the pale pink nail polish, add several lines to the bright pink part of your nail. (cupcake case)

Step Four:
It's time to create the cupcake icing. Using a thin nail art brush and the white nail polish, create a curvy semi circle on top of the join between the mint green and bright pink nail polish. If this step sounds complicated, have a look at the photo below.

Step Five:
For the cherry you will need to use a large dotting tool and the red nail polish. Simply dot a large dot at the top of the cupcake.

Step Six:
For the sprinkles you will need to use a thin nail art brush and the pale blue, yellow, orange, green and pale pink nail polishes. Simply create small lines on the cupcake icing.

Step Seven:
Apply a top coat. This will not only protect the design but it will also give the nails a nice shine too.

And we're done!

I hope you liked my cupcake design and if you have any nail tutorial requests, please let me know.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post!

How to create Marble Nails (Without Water)

Don't get me wrong, I like creating marble nails using water as it's a funky method and the results are lovely, you're also able to create different patterns but what I don't like is how messy it is. Today I'm going to show you how to create marble nails without using water, it's simple, easy and most of all, not messy!

What you will need:

  • White nail polish
  • 3 other nail polishes of your choice. I opted for neon pink, peach and pastel yellow.
  • Sandwich bag

You may also want to use nail polish remover and pointed cotton wool buds for any errors (nail polish around the nail).

If you would like to create marble nails without using water, all you have to do is follow my nice and easy steps.

Step One:
Apply one coat of the white nail polish to your nails.

Step Two:
Apply splodges of the 3 different nail polishes to your nails.

Step Three:
Place your nail onto the sandwich bag and fold one end of the sandwich bag over your nail. Pat your nail gently, you'll notice that the nail polish merges together.

Step Four:
Repeat step three. Repeating step three creates more of a marble effect.

And we're done!

It's simple yet effective. I cannot wait to try this using other colours too, I'm thinking navy, grey and black would look cool in the Autumn/Winter months!

I hope you liked this tutorial and if you have any questions or requests, please feel free to comment below!

How to create Ombré Animal Print Nails!

I have been meaning to do an ombré nail tutorial for a while but I've either just forgotten about doing one (very unusual for me *wink wink*) or I've chosen to do a different design. So on Friday I forced myself to trot down to ASDA and buy a multipack of sponges so I could do a funky ombré nail tutorial.  I decided to do an ombré animal print nail tutorial as I felt being a little different.
This tutorial will show you how to create ombré nails as well as ombré animal print nails.

What you will need:
  • Scissors
  • Sponge
  • White nail polish
  • Neon pink nail polish
  • Bright blue nail polish
  • Lilac nail polish
  • Baby blue nail polish
  • Baby pink nail polish
  • Green nail polish
  • Silver nail polish
  • WAH nail art pen

If you would like to create ombré animal print nails all you have to do is follow my nice and easy steps! You can use any 3 nail polishes you like for the ombré part of the design, I just decided to go for neon pink, bright blue and lilac as I thought they went well together.

Step One:
Apply one coat of the white nail polish to your nails.

Step Two:
Cut up the sponge into approximately 3cm pieces using the scissors.

Step Three:
In a 3 stripe pattern, apply the neon pink, bright blue and lilac nail polish to a piece of sponge.

Step Four:
Gently roll and dab the sponge across your nails. Repeat this step twice, obviously let the first layer dry completely before applying a second layer.

And that's the ombré part complete! If you don't fancy creating an animal print design on top of the ombré design you can just leave it like this but be sure to add a top coat as this will prevent your nails from chipping!

Step Five:
Using medium sized dotting tools and the baby pink, baby blue, green and silver nail polish, create several dots in a diagonal shape.

Step Six:
Using the WAH nail art pen, create the leopard print.

How to create leopard print:

Step Seven:
Using the WAH nail art pen, create the zebra print.

And we're done!

Video Tutorial:

I hope you liked this tutorial and I also hope you found it helpful.
Like I said before, you can use any three colours for the ombré, you don't have to use the exact same colours I used (although I think they look pretty funky together!). You don't have to add both animal prints like I did too, you could just add one or the other.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and if you have any comments or requests, please feel free to comment below.
