How To Create: Tartan Nails

It seems like forever since I've sat down and written a blog post and that's probably due to the fact I've been busy for 10 weeks solid. If you follow me on Twitter or have watched the videos my Mamma put up on my YouTube channel, you'll know that I have been training to become a Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist. So if you were sat there wondering if I'd been abducted by Aliens, fear not, I was in fact training.
Now I'm qualified and no longer have to train anymore it means I have lots of time to write posts and make videos meaning you're going to see a lot more of me.

I thought I'd get back into the blogging business by showing you a funky, on trend nail tutorial. Tartan is huge this A/W so I thought I'd show you all how to create Tartan Nails.

Beautysets - How To: Tartan Nails

What you will need:
  • Taupe Nail Polish
  • White Acrylic Paint
  • Black Acrylic Paint
  • Red Acrylic Paint
  • Top Coat
  • Thin Paint Brush

Please note that if you do not own acrylic paints you can use nail polish instead. I purely use acrylic paint for nail art as it dries very fast meaning I can complete my designs in no time. If you're wanting to buy acrylic paint, check out your local art shop as they stock acrylic paint sets for as little as £10.

Step By Step:

Step One:
Apply the taupe coloured nail varnish to your nail.

Step Two:
Using the white acrylic paint and a thin paint brush, apply a large white stripe across your nail. Place this more towards the tip of the nail than the root of the nail.

Step Three:
Using the black acrylic paint and a thin paint brush, apply a black line at either side of the white stripe and also in the middle of the white stripe.

Step Four:
Again using the black acrylic paint and a thin paint brush, apply two black lines vertically down your nail.

Step Five:
Using the red acrylic paint and a thin paint brush, apply one red line horizontally across your nail (towards the root) and one red line vertically down your nail.

Step Six:
Apply a top coat to protect the design and you're done!

How to create Ombré Animal Print Nails!

I have been meaning to do an ombré nail tutorial for a while but I've either just forgotten about doing one (very unusual for me *wink wink*) or I've chosen to do a different design. So on Friday I forced myself to trot down to ASDA and buy a multipack of sponges so I could do a funky ombré nail tutorial.  I decided to do an ombré animal print nail tutorial as I felt being a little different.
This tutorial will show you how to create ombré nails as well as ombré animal print nails.

What you will need:
  • Scissors
  • Sponge
  • White nail polish
  • Neon pink nail polish
  • Bright blue nail polish
  • Lilac nail polish
  • Baby blue nail polish
  • Baby pink nail polish
  • Green nail polish
  • Silver nail polish
  • WAH nail art pen

If you would like to create ombré animal print nails all you have to do is follow my nice and easy steps! You can use any 3 nail polishes you like for the ombré part of the design, I just decided to go for neon pink, bright blue and lilac as I thought they went well together.

Step One:
Apply one coat of the white nail polish to your nails.

Step Two:
Cut up the sponge into approximately 3cm pieces using the scissors.

Step Three:
In a 3 stripe pattern, apply the neon pink, bright blue and lilac nail polish to a piece of sponge.

Step Four:
Gently roll and dab the sponge across your nails. Repeat this step twice, obviously let the first layer dry completely before applying a second layer.

And that's the ombré part complete! If you don't fancy creating an animal print design on top of the ombré design you can just leave it like this but be sure to add a top coat as this will prevent your nails from chipping!

Step Five:
Using medium sized dotting tools and the baby pink, baby blue, green and silver nail polish, create several dots in a diagonal shape.

Step Six:
Using the WAH nail art pen, create the leopard print.

How to create leopard print:

Step Seven:
Using the WAH nail art pen, create the zebra print.

And we're done!

I hope you liked this tutorial and I also hope you found it helpful.
Like I said before, you can use any three colours for the ombré, you don't have to use the exact same colours I used (although I think they look pretty funky together!). You don't have to add both animal prints like I did too, you could just add one or the other.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and if you have any comments or requests, please feel free to comment below.

How to create Multi Coloured Leopard Print Nails!

One day last week, I decided to play with my nail wheels and nail polishes and create some new designs. I posted my designs on Instagram and asked if anyone would like a tutorial for any of the designs and a lot of people said they'd like a tutorial for my multi coloured leopard print design, so here it is.

What you will need:
  • White nail polish - I used Orly 'White Out'
  • Bright pink nail polish - I used Nubar 'Hot Pink'
  • Orange nail polish - I used 17 'Orange Soda'
  • Yellow nail polish - I used Ciate 'Big Yellow Taxi'
  • Green nail polish - I used Nubar 'Kiwi'
  • Blue nail polish - I used O.P.I 'What's With The Cattitude'
  • Purple nail polish - I used O.P.I 'Planks A Lot'
  • Black nail art pen - I used the WAH Nail Art Pen
  • Dotting tools

Before creating multi coloured leopard print nails, it's important to know how to create the leopard print. Below is a step by step photograph showing you how to create leopard print.

How to create leopard print, the easy way:

If you would like to create multi coloured leopard print nails all you have to do is follow my nice and easy steps.

Step One:
Apply two coats of the white nail polish to your nails. The white nail polish acts a blank canvas and it also makes colours appear a lot brighter.

Step Two:
Using the different coloured nail polishes (pink, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple) and dotting tools, apply several dots to your nails. I created both medium and small dots but you can create either small, medium or large dots, or a mix of different sized dots.

Step Three:
Using the WAH nail art pen, create the leopard print.

Step Four:
Using the WAH nail art pen, fill in any gaps by creating small black splodges.

And we're done!
