Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip Gloss in 'Bellini'

I hardly ever buy lip glosses and you may all be shocked when I say this but I actually do not like them. They're sticky, are often quite sheer and my big brown mane gets stuck to my lips when I wear them. So I bet you're all wondering why I bought this lip gloss, well I have a good reason, Tanya Burr used it in one of her videos and I just loved the look of it. It's a lovely shimmery lip gloss that is perfect for wearing over any nude lipstick.

What Bobbi Brown have to say about the High Shimmer Lip Glosses?
"Bobbi's new lip gloss combines gorgeous, light-catching shimmer with lasting, non-sticky shine. Made with fine pearls and clear pigments, High Shimmer Lip Gloss stays colour-true and gives lips beautiful, brilliant dimension. Plus it's enriched with emollients and Vitamins C and E to moisturise, condition and protect lips, so they feel as good as they look. Whether you wear it on its own or on top of your favourite Lip Color, the new tapered applicator lets you apply it like a pro."

How would you describe 'Bellini' & Where is it available?

Bellini is described as a nude pink and silver pearl and I don't agree with this description at all. I would say that the Bellini is a nude coloured gloss with pink and gold shimmer. It's a lovely lip gloss for wearing over the top of nude lipsticks and I think it would look nice over pink lipsticks too due to the pink glitter particles within the lip gloss.

The Bobbi Brown High Shimmer lip glosses retail at £17.00 each and contain 7ml of product. There are 16 different shades available, ranging from hot pink to pure silver. The lip glosses can be purchased online at Bobbi BrownSelfridgesDebenhams and House Of Fraser or they can be purchased from any Bobbi Brown makeup counter, these are usually situated in Selfridges and House Of Fraser.

Is 'Bellini' suitable for everyone?

Bellini is a standard sheer nude lip gloss and I can 100% guarantee that it will look good on everyone. No matter if you have a light or dark skin tone, this lip gloss is going to look good on you. This lip gloss is also perfect for those of you who suffer with dry lips as not only does it feel lovely on the lips, it conceals any dry bits and fine lines too. I have really dry lips at the moment and when I applied this to my lips, it reduced the appearance of dry skin dramatically.

The Good
  • Shade Selection - The High Shimmer Lip Glosses are available in 16 different shades which is great, there really is a shade for everyone. I have been eyeing up the pure silver glitter lip gloss.
  • Application - I love the applicator on this lip gloss as it's small, this means you can apply the lip gloss to the lips evenly and precisely. The applicator is also a doe foot applicator, I don't mind doe foot applicators but I know that a lot of people dislike them.
  • Availability - The lip glosses can be purchased from many places online and also in-store. If you'd like to buy one of these lip glosses, the links can be found at the top of this blog post. I like how the lip glosses can be purchased from an array of places as it makes shopping easy if there's ever a shade out of stock.
The Okay
  • Texture – I'm not going to lie, this lip gloss has a very sticky texture. I personally do not like sticky lip glosses as they annoy me greatly but if you don't mind sticky lip glosses then you may love Bellini. Anyone with dry lips will love this lip gloss as it's very moisturising and it leaves lips feeling very soft. Like I said earlier too, it also hides any dry skin and fine lines on the lips.
  • Pigmentation – This lip gloss doesn't have great pigmentation but it doesn't have bad pigmentation, it's just okay. When swatching this lip gloss I had to use a lot of product just to show you all it's true colour. This lip gloss is very sheer and and the colour can only be seen over the top of a nude lipstick.
  • Packaging - There's nothing really special about the lip gloss packaging but saying that, there's nothing special about any lip gloss packaging as they all tend to look the same. I like how it says 'High Shimmer Lip Gloss' on the side of the tube as Bobbi Brown have lip glosses with different finishes so it's nice to differentiate which is which.
  • Size - The lip gloss contains 7g of product which is pretty good for a lip gloss. I did have to use a fair amount of product so I'm unsure as to whether this lip gloss is going to last a while before I have to buy a new one.
The Bad
  • Longevity – This lip gloss lasts around 1-2 hours. Lip glosses tend to last a lot longer on the lips due to them having a thick consistency so I don't understand why this lip gloss only lasted around 2 hours. I did have a drink so maybe that could be why it didn't last as long but still, what do they expect me to do, die of thirst?!
  • Price - The lip glosses retail at £17.00 each which to me is pretty ridiculous as they are quite sheer. Yes they do contain a lot of glitter and are very shimmery but I don't think they are worth £17.00 at all. If truth be told, I'd rather buy a Nars lip gloss instead.

Have any of you tried this lip gloss?

MAC Viva Glam Nicki Lipstick

On Wednesday, MAC sent me a little email with a code attached to it. It wasn't just any code, it was a code enabling me to get the Viva Glam Nicki lipstick before it launches next week. As you can imagine I was super excited and literally bought the beauty as soon as I'd read the email.

There are 2 reasons why I bought this lipstick; one, its another lipstick to add to my ever growing collection and two, it's for a good cause. I don't know if you know much about the MAC Aids Fund but 'Viva Glam' is part of it, in the form of the annual 'Viva Glam' lipsticks. All profits from the Viva Glam lipsticks go towards helping women, men and children living with and affected by aids. This year Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin have teamed up with the MAC Aids Fund team and released Viva Glam Nicki.

I actually bought 2 of these lovely lipsticks, one for myself and one for my giveaway. I was going to include the MAC 'Watch Me Simmer' lipstick in my giveaway but since the MAC Aids Fund is a such great cause, I decided to buy a Viva Glam Nicki lipstick instead. I'm sure you'll all prefer that anyway!

What do MAC have to say about Viva Glam Nicki Lipstick?

"M∙A∙C and hip-hop diva Nicki Minaj join forces to create VIVA GLAM Nicki, a scene-stealing Lipstick. Every cent from the sale goes toward helping women, men and children living with and affected by HIV and AIDS. Limited Edition."

How would you describe Viva Glam Nicki and where is it available?

Viva Glam Nicki is described as a 'bright yellow pink' and I would agree with that description. To me it also looks very neon so if you're not into neons, then you probably won't like this lippy. Word of warning, it WILL make your teeth look ever so lightly yellow so prepare to whack out the crest strips. Viva Glam Nicki is definitely my kind of colour as I love anything bold and bright but it may not be to everyones taste. If you want something a little less vibrant then check out MAC 'Costa Chic' lipstick!  Viva Glam Nicki is definitely a summer colour so I'll be saving it until I go on my jolly holidays as at the moment it makes me look a little 'dead'.
Viva Glam Nicki has a satin finish, it's rich, creamy and glides straight onto the lips. If you've got dry lips then your going to love this lipstick as it has a lovely texture but I will warn you, it settles into every line imaginable. Not so attractive.

Viva Glam Nicki retails at £13.50 and all proceeds go towards the MAC Aids Fund. The lipstick isn't currently available in the UK as it releases next week, online on the 28th of February and in-store on the 1st of March. I was just fortunate enough to get sent a little MAC code, MAC may also send you a little code if you sign up to Nicki & Ricky on the homepage!

(On The Lips)

Is Viva Glam Nicki suitable for everyone?

With regards to colour, Viva Glam Nicki will suit the majority of people but I would be careful if you have a lighter skin tone. When I applied this lipstick to my lips it made me look a little washed out so I think I'll have to pile on the bronzer if I want to wear this lipstick as I may end up looking like something from the Adams Family if I don't. I'm not saying it won't suit everyone with a lighter skin tone but I'd just try it first. Without a shadow of a doubt, this lipstick will look beautiful on anyone with a medium to dark skin tone.

With regards to those who suffer with dry lips, this lipstick could be either your enemy or your friend. Whilst it has a super creamy texture, it does cling to every single dry bit on your lips. As I said in my last post, there are a couple of things you could do to remove the dead skin cells on your lips. You could brush your lips with a tooth brush, use a lip scrub or simply wear a lip balm underneath the lipstick.

The Good
  • Pigmentation – As with all MAC lipsticks, this lipstick has great pigmentation. When applying this lipstick you only need one swipe across your lips. Due to only needing to apply one swipe, this lipstick is going to last a very long time!
  • Texture – The lipstick has a satin finish, it's creamy, smooth and it glides onto the lips with ease. Throughout the day it feels very comfortable on the lips therefore it is perfect those who have dry lips and also those who don't have dry lips.
  • Size - The lipstick contains 3g which is quite good. I know that some high-end lipsticks contain a lot less so 3g is pretty good. I also know for a fact that this lipstick is going to last me a lifetime as you literally only need one swipe due to the high pigmentation.
  • Packaging - The packaging is just the standard Viva Glam packaging, except this time it has Nicki Minaj's signature on it. I like the packaging as it fits in with the cause very well.
  • Application - This lipstick applies to the lips very well due to the lipstick having a creamy formulation. I also find that this lipstick doesn't bleed therefore you don't need to wear a lip liner underneath it. If you would like application to be more precise, you could always apply by using a lip brush instead.

The Okay
  • Longevity – This lipstick lasts around 3-4 hours, which disappoints me slightly as I expected the lipstick to last around 6-8 hours. When drinking I noticed that a lot of my lipstick had transferred onto my cup, I imagine that this lipstick wouldn't survive through eating and also, continuous drinking. I think in future I'll have to use a lip primer underneath this lipstick.
  • Price - £13.50 is pretty ridiculous for one lipstick but all proceeds go to the MAC Aids Fund so I guess you can't complain really.
  • Availability - The lipstick isn't available at the moment but it will be sold online and in-store as of next week.

The Bad
  • The lipstick is Limited Edition therefore once it's gone, it's gone. There are similar alternatives available but if this is the shade you're after then you need to buy it while you can.

So will you be buying the MAC Viva Glam Nicki lipstick?

MAC Quick Sizzle Lipstick

As the majority of MAC lovers will know, the MAC Shop, MAC Cook collections have been released in-store and online at Selfridges. The collection will be released on the MAC website on the 28th of February and in-store on the 1st of March. I'm not sure when the collection will be released on the Debenhams website but I presume it'll be around the same time.

MAC Shop and MAC Cook are separate collections. MAC Shop consists of lipsticks, blush and eyeshadows whereas MAC Cook consists of eye liners, mascara, lip balms, nail polishes, pressed powder and brushes. I have to say that the MAC Shop and MAC Cook collections are very fun and are possibly 2 of the best collections that MAC have released in a long long time.

I have purchased quite a lot from both collections and will be reviewing the products individually as I can review each of the products in depth.

What do MAC have to say about the lipsticks?

Here's what MAC have to say about the lipstick in the MAC Shop collection:
"Spring lips dish it up! With our shop-til-you-drop shades and the collection's colourful and fun packaging these shades stay fashionable long after check-out. Limited edition!"

How would you describe 'Quick Sizzle' and where is it available?

Quick Sizzle is described as a bright pink but I would say it's a bright pink with blue undertones. It reminds me of MAC 'Girl About Town' except girl about town is just a touch darker, if anyone would like me to do a comparison post then please let me know. Quick Sizzle is more of a 'summer' shade due to it's brightness but I don't see why it cannot be worn all year round. Quick Sizzle has a matte finish but a creamy texture. It's possibly the creamiest matte lipstick I've ever tried, it honestly doesn't feel like it has a matte finish at all. It looks matte in appearance but not in texture.

Quick Sizzle retails at £13.50 and is currently available on the Selfridges website, but for how long I do not know. This collection is a collection that WILL sell out fast so grab things while you can! You'll also be able to purchase this lipstick from the MAC website as of the 28th of February and in-store as of the 1st of March so jot down those dates if you're after this lovely lippy! If you'd like to purchase this lipstick right this second, here's the link for Selfridges; Selfridges| MAC Lipsticks

What does 'Quick Sizzle' look like?

Now for the swatches...

(On the lips)

Is 'Quick Sizzle' suitable for everyone?

With regards to colour, Quick Sizzle will suit everyone without a shadow of a doubt. Whether you have a light or dark skin tone, this lipstick will suit you. The only thing I will say is that it has a matte finish so those of you who have very dry lips may not get on well with this lipstick. However, it does feel rather creamy for a matte lipstick so maybe you'll be okay. I know that a lot of MAC matte lipsticks feel very drying on the lips after they have settled so I'd still recommend trying before you buy, just to be on the safe side.
If you do suffer with dry lips then you could wear a lip balm underneath the lipstick. A handy tip is to also brush your lips with a toothbrush as this removes any dead skin cells, a lip scrub may also work.

The Good
  • Pigmentation – As with all MAC lipsticks, this lipstick has amazing pigmentation. It’s so pigmented that it actually stains your skin if you get it anywhere else other than your lips. When applying this lipstick, I accidently got a bit just above my lip and I found it so hard to remove! Another great thing about this lippy is that you only need to use a small amount, in the long run, this is going to last a very long time!
  • Longevity – This lipstick lasts around 6-8 hours, which is standard for a lipstick, especially a MAC matte lipstick. I do have MAC matte lipsticks that last a longer, for example ‘Russian Red’. The more drying MAC matte lipsticks tend to last a lot longer and this is simply down to the finish. If you want your lipstick to last then I recommend wearing a lip liner underneath or maybe a lip primer.
  • Texture – Even though this lipstick has a matte finish, it does have a creamy and smooth texture, it just glides onto the lips. I find that some MAC matte lipsticks can have a ‘pulling’ feeling when applying them to the lips but fortunately this lipstick glides straight on. This lipstick also feels very comfortable on the lips and to me, it doesn’t feel drying at all. If you have very dry lips you may think that this lipstick is quite drying, I advise to try before you buy!
  • Size - The lipstick contains 3g which is quite good. I know that some high-end lipsticks contain a lot less so 3g is pretty good. I also know for a fact that this lipstick is going to last me a lifetime as you literally only need one swipe due to the high pigmentation.
  • Packaging - I LOVE this packaging! It's fun, quirky and eye-catching! I especially like how it's got a sleeve over the standard MAC packaging as once the sleeve gets grubby, I can just throw it away and I'll still be left with the normal MAC packaging. I also liked how MAC didn't charge extra for the products like they usually do. In recent years, MAC upped the price of Limited Edition products because of the packaging, thankfully they didn't do it this time! The only thing that disappointed me is that the lipstick tube isn't funky.
  • Availability - The lipstick is only available on the Selfridges website at the moment but it will be available on many online shops and also in-store very soon.

The Okay
  • Application - This lipstick applies to the lips very well due to the lipstick having a creamy formulation but the only problem with it is that, because it's so creamy it goes everywhere. So if you apply this lipstick straight from the tube, you really are risking getting it everywhere and as I said earlier, it stains your skin. I think it would be best to apply this lipstick using a brush so that application is precise with no mess or fuss.
  • Price - I have no problem with buying MAC lipsticks as I think they're worth the money but I have to admit that £13.50 for one lipstick is ridiculous. MAC have also upped their prices over the years which I think is a little cheeky as their products have never been somewhat 'reasonably priced'.

The Bad
  • The lipstick is Limited Edition therefore once it's gone, it's gone. There are similar alternatives available but if this is the shade you're after then you need to buy it while you can. MAC collections sell out fast, this is a well known fact.

Hope you liked this post! Will any of you be buying this lovely lipstick?

Thanks for reading!

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation

I have been using the Illamasqua Skin Base foundation for around 4 months and have never really thought about doing a review on it until now. I feel that I should write a review about the foundation because it is THAT good, it's possibly one of the best foundations that I've ever bought and I will continue to re-purchase it. Although next time I buy one, I think I'll get re-matched as I'm still adamant that it's too dark for my skin tone.

As I always do in my reviews, I'm going to include good and bad points about the foundation and I'll also be telling you a bit about skin types and application. I'm also going in include the ever so handy Skin Base comparison charts as this will give you some indication as to what shade you will be.

What is Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation?

Here's what Illamasqua have to say about their lovely Skin Base Foundation:
"Inspired by the cult Asian market Beauty Balm creams, Skin Base Foundation is a brand new, refined formula unlike anything on the UK market. Easily blendable, it effortlessly creates a perfect complexion, and like the entire Illamasqua foundation range, is undetectable in a professional HD environment. Suitable for all skin types, it smoothes, softens and conditions your skin whilst providing natural, buildable coverage."

How many shades are there and where is it available?

Illamasqua Skin Base foundation is available in 18 different shades, ranging from light to dark. They also have a pure white shade that would be prefect for mixing in with other foundations to make them lighter, this would be handy for those people who choose not to tan in winter and also those people who are naturally very pale. The great thing about the shade selection is that the foundations all have a different undertone, the shades either have a pink, yellow or neutral undertone. There is literally a shade for everyone.

If you want to find out which shade you would be, here a few comparison charts. The comparison charts compare other brand foundation shades to the Illamasqua Skin Base foundation shades. For example, if your the shade 'Siberia' in Nars foundation then the likelihood is that you'll be shade '02' in Illamasqua Skin Base foundation.

Bobbi Brown / Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation - Bobbi Brown Comparison
MAC / Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation - MAC Comparison
Nars / Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation - Nars Comparison
YSL / Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation - YSL Comparison
Other Illamasqua Foundations / Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation - Illamasqua Comparison

To give you all an indication, I use the lightest shade in all brands of foundation and according to the online comparison charts, I would have to use Skin Base '02'. Just to be sure I went to an Illamasqua counter and was matched at Skin Base '06' due to it having a neutral undertone. I think the comparison charts are really handy but I would go and get matched if you can!

The Illamasqua Skin Base foundation retails at £25.00 and can be purchased from the following places; IllamasquaASOS and Debenhams. The foundation bottle contains 30ml of product which is a standard amount as most foundations contain 30ml.

What does Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation look like?

Shade '06' - Neutral.

Is it suitable for all skin types?

Illamasqua Skin Base foundation is suitable for all skin types, from very dry to combination to oily. To give you a little insight, my mum suffers from very dry skin and has done since she was a youngster. Over the years she has tried and tested many foundations but unfortunately they haven't cut the mustard  as many of them settled into her dry bits. The only foundation that doesn't settle in her dry bits is the Illamasqua Skin Base foundation which is amazing. My mum does follow a strict skincare routine so this could also prevent 'settling'. I know a lot of people have said that this foundation isn't good for dry skin as it settles but if you think about it, every foundation will settle into your dry bits if you don't follow a skincare routine. If you do have very dry skin then I would suggest buying an exfoliator and a moisturiser. Any exfoliator will work, you don't have to buy an uber duber expensive one, they all do the same job at the end of the day! If you exfoliate your skin 2 or 3 times a week and apply moisturiser in the morning and at night, you should see a difference in your skin. You'll also notice that your foundation will look a lot different on your skin too.
The Illamasqua Skin Base foundation is also great for combination skin types, I have combination to dry skin and whenever I wear the foundation my skin looks completely flawless. It honestly looks as if I've been airbrushed! I also find that the foundation doesn't give me a shiny look at all, it's more of a healthy glow. If you have oily skin then you may need to use blotting paper or loose powder but I honestly can't say that you will definitely have to do this as I don't have oily skin. I can only suggest what to do if you do experience a bit of shininess when using the foundation. Also, the foundation doesn't slide off the skin after hours of wearing it which is fabulous as it means you don't need to use a primer but if you suffer with oily skin then you may need to use a primer.

The Good
  • Application - The foundation applies to the skin very nicely. It goes on smoothly and generally just feels lovely, the foundation melts into the skin straight away. To apply the foundation to the skin I use a Sigma F80 flat-top kabuki brush, you can use other brushes and tools but I like to use that brush as it's AMAZING. The Sigma F80 and the Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation are a match made in heaven.
  • Coverage - The Illamasqua Skin Base foundation has a build-able coverage so you can either apply a light layer or build it up so you've got a full coverage. The good thing with this foundation is that you can also use it as a concealer too! When using this foundation I feel that I don't need to use a concealer as the foundation does a good enough job at hiding things, it really does cover a multitude of sins!
  • Longevity - The foundation lasts all day without going patchy or sliding off the skin. I'd say that it lasts between 10-12 hours which is great if you're out all day as you know your foundation is going to last. The foundation just seems to sink into the skin and it honestly stays put. I teach dance and actually wore this foundation while carrying out a dancing lesson, I'm pleased to tell you that the sweat on my forehead and nose didn't move this baby as gross as this may sound!
  • Texture - The foundation has quite a thick consistency but feels very light on the skin. It almost feels as if you're not wearing any foundation at all.
  • Shade Selection - The Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation is available in 18 different shades which is absolutely fantastic. I sometimes find that I can't use a certain foundation due to the lack of shade selection, most brands don't do very light shades which is very frustrating. Estee Lauder foundations are great but I cannot use them due to the lack of lighter shades. Luckily Illamasqua cater for everyone.

The Okay
  • Packaging - I love the Illamasqua packaging, and I have to say that I think and will always think that Illamasqua have the nicest packaging out of all cosmetic brands. The packaging is sleek, sexy and sophisticated. With regards to the foundation, I love the odd shaped bottle and I also like how it comes with a screw top as this is very practical. It prevents spillages and other such catastrophes. The only negative thing I have to say about the packaging is that it's hard to squeeze out the product once you're running low. So when you're a little weakling, it's frustrating when you know there's product left but are unable to squeeze it out. On the plus side, the bottle has a thin nozzle meaning you don't use heaps of product.
  • Availability - Illamasqua is sold online and in some department stores which is handy if you live in the UK but if you live outside of the UK then availability may be a bit of an issue. The only issue I have is that delivery is quite expensive if you're ordering in the UK but saying that, delivery is expensive everywhere nowadays.
  • Price - I personally don't mind paying £25.00 for this foundation because it's utterly amazing but I must admit it does have quite a hefty price tag. If you're a student and looking at buying this foundation but don't want to spend £25.00 on it then check out ASOS because they offer 10% student discount all year round and sometimes offer 25% discount for 48 hours. ASOS don't stock all shades but you'll be on a winner if they do! It's also good to know that if you 'like' the Illamasqua Facebook Page, they have an exclusive discount for their online website so it's worth checking out!

The Bad
  • I have nothing bad to say about this foundation at all. If I can think of a minor negative it's that it's so good, it makes me want to spend money on another bottle.

To round up this very long review all I'm going to say is, the Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation is AMAZING and you all need to try it. Before you buy a bottle I'd recommend being match just to make sure you purchase the right shade. You really need to try it, you won't be disappointed!

Thank you for reading this post and if you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch!

IMATS Haul 2012

I'm not going to lie, this post is going to be very picture heavy so I don't think I'm going to go into depth about each of the products as I'd be writing this post for about a week.

I bought quite a few bits from the IMATS but I really wish I'd have bought more because of the fabulous discounts. Due to the business of the stands, I ended up only purchasing half of what I wanted to which is a bit naff so I've ended up buying online. I also completely forgot to visit the NYX, Rae Morris and various other stands so If i had of done, I'd be showing you a lot more products. Maybe I'll end up getting double the amount when I go to the IMATS next year, I just hope it's a lot calmer.

A few swatches...

From left to right: Reflects Transparent Pink, Reflects Antique Gold, Pastel Babe, Dragon's Liar.

From left to right: Fleshpot, MUFE Aqua Cream '2', MUFE Aqua Cream '3', MUFE Aqua Cream '7'.

So that's everything that I purchased at the IMATS. As you can see I went a little crazy at the Make Up For Ever (MUFE) counter but you can't blame me really, there was a whopping 35% off! If MUFE do the same discount next year, I'll be buying lots! I really wanted to buy more from MAC Pro but I just couldn't get anywhere near the stand, it was horrendous. If it's the same situation next year then I'll possibly end up taking a trip down the MAC Pro store in Soho.
